PATRICK

I couldn't catch my breath. My heart was thundering in my chest, and everything inside of me was electric. I was far too awake to follow Kaiti into post-orgasmic sleep.

I kissed the top of her head, inhaling the scent of her hair and gathering her closer.

I closed my eyes and shook my head. I'd underestimated how important and amazing making love to Kaiti again would be.

Being with her was like coming home after a long journey. I'd never experienced anything like it. My heart felt like it was going to burst. It was too full. Everything about this was too much. Too soon.

And yet the very idea of stepping away from her, breaking this very new connection between us... I wrapped my arms around her even tighter.

There was no way I was letting her go.

Not now. Not ever.

The thought surprised me, and I stopped. But then again, after two decades of searching for a relationship that was even remotely liveable and coming up short, was it really surprising I wanted the one woman who made me feel whole?

I just lay there, enjoying the warmth and weight of her tucked in next to me while she slept, thinking about how our lives were about to change.

After an hour or so, she stirred, moaning softly, then lifting her head to stare at me.

"Hey, beautiful."

I could see was confused, like she couldn't remember where she was, then the light of comprehension dawned in her eyes.

"Oh... ah..." She moved away to settle her head on the pillow next to me, the covers drawn up to her neck.

I chuckled and rolled deeper onto my side, letting the blankets fall to my waist. "Please don't tell me you're going to be all bashful now?" After all, I could still taste her pussy on my lips. Not that I thought that was a good thing to tell her at this moment in time.

"No, I, uh..." She stopped and turned her head towards me. "Just processing it all."

"Are you okay?" I asked. "Do you want a shower? Or should I order room service?"

She sat up against the headboard, dragging the covers with her. "I think dinner would be great. And a shower... yeah. Good idea."

I flicked the blankets back and got up myself. "Mind if I join you?"

She looked terrified at the prospect.

Shit! Where had my confident, gorgeous woman gone?

I sat on the bed again, still naked. "Kaiti, what's wrong? Why do I feel like you're regretting what happened between us tonight?"

"I don't," she reassured me, shaking her head. "I'm just a little overwhelmed, I think. Do you mind if I have a quick shower myself and when I come back, we can talk?"

I didn't really like the sound of that but denying her the space she needed to think was never a good idea.

"Of course," I said, picking up the menu and handing it to her. "Let me know what you want, and I'll order it while you’re in there. And take your time. There's no rush.
